nfl scores week 4
The NFL scores for week 4 of the 2009 season had the Colts, Giants, Saints and Broncos all winning to remain undefeated. On the other end of the spectrum the Browns, Chiefs, Titans, Rams and Buccaneers showed off their futility as they dropped their week 4 games to remain winless on the 2009 season.
In the match-up between two 3 – 0 teams the New Orleans Saints were able to beat the NY Jets 24 – 10 as they were able to rattle Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. The rookie couldn’t handle the pressure the Saints put on him as he threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in the end zone that turned into 6 points for the Saints. That fumble came after Sanchez threw a pick that Darren Sharper of the Saints returned 99 yards for a touchdown.
With the Saints defense providing 14 points off turnovers in the first half the Jets found themselves trailing at halftime 17 – 3. The second half was a defensive struggle but the Jets were able to close to within a touchdown after Thomas Jones ran it in from 15 yards out to make it 17 – 10 with 7:48 in the third quarter. Those points came after the Jets had a short field after a New Orleans fumble. But that was all the points the Jets could generate as the Saints defense was strong all day showing the Sanchez led Jets offense many different defensive formations. The Saints stretched their lead to 24 – 10 and took home the win, moving to 4 – 0 on the young season.
In New England, another undefeated team heading into today’s action tried to move to 4 – 0; however they hit a roadblock in the Patriots. The Ravens couldn’t get by the Patriots as their late game drive fell just short. The Ravens had a chance to win the game as they found themselves down 27 – 21 with 3:04 left in the fourth quarter. With plenty of time left and timeouts in their pocket the Ravens efficiently moved down the field into Patriots territory. However, at the Patriots 14 yard line the Ravens stalled out as they only gained six yards in their first three downs.
Since a field goal meant nothing the Ravens went for it on fourth down, needing four yards for a first down and 14 for the go ahead touchdown. It wasn’t to be for the Ravens as Joe Flacco’s pass bounced in and out of Mark Clayton’s hands, giving the Patriots the ball on downs. From there it was simply a matter of Tom Brady kneeling down and sealing the win and moving the Patriots to 3 – 1 on the season. The Ravens were knocked off the undefeated list as they also move to 3 – 1. The Patriots will attempt knock off another undefeated team next week as they travel to Denver to play the 4 – 0 Broncos.
