In 1964, Neal won a Best Actress Oscar for her turn as the resilient housekeeper Alma opposite Paul Newman in “Hud.” A year after her Academy Awards triumph, though, the actress suffered 3 strokes that left her in a three-week coma. Afterwards she was semi-paralyzed and without the ability to speak, though she eventually learned to walk and talk again.

Despite an impaired memory, the actress returned to the big screen for 1968’s “The Subject Was Roses,” playing a vindictive mother. She again secured an Oscar nomination, but this time lost out to dual victors Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand.

Neal got her start at the age of twenty-one opposite Ronald Reagan in the 1949 comedy “John Loves Mary.” She went on to star in films like “The Day the Earth Stood Still” (1951), “A Face in the Crowd” (1957) and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961). One of her most prominent roles came in 1949, when she nabbed the coveted lead role in “The Fountainhead,” an adaptation of the Ayn Rand novel.

The role also lead to a romance between Neal and co-star Gary Cooper, a relationship that lasted for 3 years but ended when Cooper declined to leave his wife and family. Neal became pregnant during the affair and had an abortion, as she revealed in a 1988 memoir.

“If I had only one thing to do over in my life,” she wrote, according to the Times, “I would have that baby.” Neal was got married for thirty years to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” author Roald Dahl, with whom she had 5 children. They divorced in 1983.

Though the Times doesn’t give a cause of death, People reports that Neal had lung cancer. She died at her home in Edgartown, Massachusetts.

Professional golf game is just not the same unless you can check out players like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk. Fans of professional golf have come to expect those guys to show up at each and every tournament with their best game. In addition to those big names, players like Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen and Graeme McDowell rarely hit the course looking to shabby.

This weekend the Bridgestone Invitational brings in the defending champ inTiger Woods alongside Mickelson and a host of others.

In case this Is not the biggest tournament followed, possibly folks should wake up and see the line up that will hit the course the course at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. If Ohio can use one thing, it is something uplifting to wash that ugly Lebron mark off their face. This big tournament could very well do just that. The Bridgestone Invitational 2010 is the tournament where Tiger has never finished outside the top 5 so hopefully he can get out of the bunkers and put on a good show.

The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) recognized the new Theatre Arts Building at Santa Monica College with a Los Angeles Architectural Award during a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. today. The project, which was designed by the Los Angeles office of international architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and project management firm LEO A DALY, was honored with The New Civic Building Award as part of LABC's 38th Annual Los Angeles Architecture Awards program.

"We are pleased to recognize LEO A DALY for their contribution to enhancing the world-class level of contemporary architecture in Los Angeles. It is the talent and creativity of their entire project team that makes development of this high quality and aesthetic appeal possible," stated Mary Leslie, President of the Los Angeles Business Council.

The bold, contemporary design of the 20,000 square-foot, $17 million building, which opened its doors in September 2006, is the new home of the college's award-winning performing arts program.

According to Vice President and Managing Principal of LEO A DALY's Los Angeles office, Brian A. Kite, AIA, "This is the third honor the project has received recently and we at LEO A DALY are especially thankful to Santa Monica College for having invited us to design such a notable structure for their campus."

Greg Brown, Director of Facilities and Planning with Santa Monica College noted that, "We are very excited to see this building recognized for its architectural excellence. Having facilities such as the new Theatre Arts Building that combine high-level design with an enriching learning environment is a key component of our college's long-term vision."

For Hraztan Zeitlian, AIA, LEED AP, Vice President and Director of Design for LEO A DALY's Los Angeles office, "This award is a major honor and reflects LEO A DALY's commitment to creating transformative, high-caliber building designs. Our projects always seek to positively impact the surrounding community, so it is especially meaningful to be singled out for creating a building that engages both students and the greater Los Angeles area."

The project has also been recognized by the Southern California Development Forum with a 2007 Community Enrichment Award, and a "Best of California 2007" award from California Construction magazine in the Southern California Performing Arts category. Replacing an overcrowded and aging fifty-year-old facility, the teaching facility has greatly expanded the teaching capabilities of the theatre arts department and reinforced the program's presence on campus. The building is one of the most recent additions to Santa Monica College's main campus, which has undergone an architectural renaissance in recent years.

Hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council, the 38th annual awards ceremony brought together world renowned architects, developers and contractors to acknowledge and celebrate the most laudable new projects in Los Angeles County.

Fairchild C-123 Aircraft Crashes in Alaska, Sparks Fire

A Fairchild C-123 cargo aircraft crashed in a national park in Alaska, killing 3, according to reports on Monday.

The big multi-engine plane crashed near the Denali National Park headquarters on Sunday, killing all 3 people on board the craft, reported local television station KTVA-CBS 11.

The aircraft smashed into the side of Mount Healy. Several 100 tourists reportedly saw the incident. Authorities said that the plane erupted into a large fireball and sparked a wildfire, which was reported to still be burning as of Sunday evening.

It looked like he was flying kind of low, and he banked hard to the left and went straight down,” witness Brent Stache from Milwaukee, WI, told the TV station. “We saw the fireball come up from the back side of the mountains.”

1st responders said that the airplane was completely destroyed and it was impossible to get into the wreckage as it was engulfed in flames. The wildfire has prevented authorities from conducting a more thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to arrive on Monday and conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.

The names of those on board have not been released yet but are all employees at All West Freight, Inc. of Delta Junction, reported KTVA.

As for the fire, several Alaska Fire smokejumpers were deployed to aid in containing the blaze.

Denali National Park is approximately one hundred eighty miles north of Anchorage.

According to reports, for what was supposed to be a top-secret wedding ceremony, we’ve got the details! Reports say that their special day was held at Astor Courts, a beautiful estate just off the scenic Hudson River in Rhinebeck, NY where the newlyweds exchanged vows in an “interfaith ceremony”.

Of the venue and its guests, New York Times White House correspondent Sheryl Gay Stolberg said earlier this week that “People were told, ‘Get yourself within New York City driving distance, and we’ll give you the details with a week to go.’” Stolberg also noted that the location “is within driving distance of NY. It’s a lovely place. It’s secluded on fifty acres owned by some Clinton donors, Kathleen Hammer and her husband, who’s a real estate developer, and it’s easy to get to.”

For those in attendance, the blushing bride donned an elegant Vera Wang wedding gown for her special day. She must have looked absolutely amazing as she walked down the aisle, with a dress that was very flattering to her figure. Chelsea looked very much like a fairytale princess in the “strapless ivory gown” that featured a “diagnolly draped bodice, ball skirt made out of raw-edged laser-cut swirling silk organza, and a train in silk tulle, along with silver-jeweled embroidery band around her waist with a fabulous, long veil” to make her look complete.
