MYFOXNY.COM - Fox Business' Liz Claman is about to run her first triathlon. The mother of two has been training hard.

Claman says, "I'm excited. It's something I've never done. When there is something you've never done before, why not go for that challenge, break out of that mold that forms around you every day at work, do something different."

It's really different compared to the "old-school" workouts she used to do.

Claman says, "I was the original aerobisizer. Embarrasing. I was at Jane Fonda's workout in Los Angeles when I was eighteen."

But sweating it out with Fonda is no triathlon but, with the help of her health coach, claman is getting both mentally and physically prepared.

With a five day a week workout plan that often begins at 5 a.m., claman has her hands full.

What is she looking forward to most after she crosses the finish line? She jokes, "cheesecake."

The anchor of "Countdown to the Closing Bell" is also a regular contributor to Fox 5 News.

Health Coach Peter K gave us these tips if you are interested in trying a triathlon.

Outline for first triathlon preparation:
1. Find a coach/trainer or mentor who does triathlons.
2. Start training at least 6 months before the event.
3. Start by training all 3 events weekly in short time periods. Ie- swim, bike, and run once per week starting with 20 min of each depending on your fitness level. Increase your times every 2 to 3 weeks and add bricks (ie swim then bike during same workout)
4. Do total body functional resistance training (ie Peter K Bands) 2 to 3 times per week for 20 min. This will make sure your muscles don't break down.
5. Stretch after every workout. This decreases chance of injury.
6. Eat the right foods. Eat more anti-inflamatory and energy foods like berries, salmon, nuts, fruit, veggies, and whole grains. Limit crackers, cookies, fried, processed and sugar foods.
7. Enjoy the experience. An event like this will change your life. You will gain a new sense of confidence, pride and accomplishment!
