Severe thunderstorm warning, but Taste of Buffalo still a go,The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Erie County until 11:15 a.m. today, and forecasters predict continued rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, especially in the afternoon, according to a recording from the Weather Service's Buffalo office.
Skies remained cloudy just before and light rain had begun to fall at 11 a.m.
At this point, the Taste of Buffalo is still a go.
There would need to be more than a few claps of thunder to cancel the first half of the city's largest summer festival, which continues Sunday, said spokesman Jim Fink.
"If there's any concern to human safety, we'll shut it down," said Taste spokesman Jim Fink. "We've been down this road before ... we'll work through it."
If weather problems persist, particularly accumulating rain near generators or continuous thunder and lightening, a group decision could be made on whether or not to proceed with the day's events, Fink said.
