City Furniture gained a boost from ''accidental'' exports, but the home furnishing giant's sales are still in a three-year slump.

Keith Koenig, the president and cofounder of City Furniture, loves the Bahamas -- not just because of the beauty of the islands or the people, but also because the Bahamas is the company's biggest export market.

City Furniture, a family-owned enterprise that is one of the country's largest furniture retailers, has developed an export market in the Caribbean and Latin America over the years by being in the right place with the right products.

Even though the company does not actively promote its products offshore, Koenig said it ranks as South Florida's largest source of furniture exports and one of the biggest nationwide.

''Visitors see the quality and value they can get from us at affordable prices, and often decide it's better than what they can buy at home,'' Koenig said.
